Water main requisition

Most developments that include a new road will need a new water main to supply water to the site. We'll connect the new main to our existing network, and each property will then be connected through its own service pipe.

There are two ways to install a new water main:

Self-lay – an accredited self-lay provider designs and installs the water main on your behalf.
Water main requisition – Welsh Water designs and installs the water main for you.

What does this service include?

If you choose a water main requisition, we'll design and install the new water main needed to serve your development.

Our engineers will support you throughout the process, from the initial design through to construction and connection to our network.

Please note that you'll still need to apply separately for a new water connection for each property on the development.

How long will it take?

Every development is different, so timescales will vary depending on the size and complexity of the work required. Once we've reviewed your application, we'll provide an estimated timescale for your scheme.

Water main connections

A new water main may be required when a development cannot be connected directly to the existing water network.

This is commonly needed for larger developments with multiple properties, but may also be required for a single property depending on its location and proximity to the existing network.
